THOUGHT ABOUT HAVING A
Sports Massage
Hello, If you have ever thought about having a sports massage but unsure what it entails then have a quick read... The prime purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body's soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively.
This treatment is not just for the sports person: anyone can benefit from sports massage, including people in physically demanding jobs and those not quite so obvious. Sports massage tends to be deeper and more intense. I do maintenance, event and rehabilitation messages so please contact me for any further Information or questions.

Don’t have the time for a massage? Just a reminder that I am a mobile sports massage therapist. In your home, workplace, or even, to a special event; weddings, anniversary celebrations, and more! By having a massage in the privacy of your home, you can take relaxation to another level. Oftentimes, trying to relax at a spa or salon, can’t happen, because you’re unsure of your surroundings.
In addition, the drive to and from the massage session will diminish the benefits of the massage. Isn’t the idea of a massage to get rid of the stress from work, traffic and to relax from your hectic life style? Get intouch today and we will find a time that suits you
Sports Massage is a deep massage designed to release tight muscles, 'iron-out' knots in muscles and enhance sports performance by optimising muscle function. It is NOT a relaxing massage, it's a therapeutic remedial massage and it is very effective in increasing blood flow and promoting healing.
A deep tissue massage is perfectly explained by its name. The pressure is adjusted to manipulate the deeper tissue layers in the body. So what exactly the deeper tissue layers? They are all the tissue layers that lay on top of the muscle, though not the muscle itself. I work on these layers, but not so deep as to work all the way through like with a sports massage. This type of pressure is still efficient enough to release any newly formed or small knots and to stretch stiff muscles.
It is not limited to sports people or those who play the occasional round of golf but want to avoid injury - anyone can benefit from a deep massage to feel freer and help correct postural habits. Be prepared to feel a little tender the next day - as if you had worked out.
But... if you are an office worker and suffer from regular tension type headaches or pain in your neck, shoulders or back, then sports massage can benefit you just as much as an athlete. Sitting at an office desk for 8+ hours can place great strain on your muscles, similar to the strain experienced by an athlete when training for an hour. During such circumstances, a gradual build up in muscular tension occurs which includes an increase in the presence of scar tissue and active trigger points.
My Qualifications & Training... I recieved my Diploma in Sports Massage from the the Sports Massage Academy, the UK's leading provider for professional Sports Massage courses and Continuing Professional Development.
So... if you are training for something specific? Maybe a half marathon run or another type of sporting event? What ever your goal may be, don't let injury prevent you achieving great things. Nip that twinge in the bud!

"Lucy visited me for a sports massage in the comfort of my own home,I suffer from sciatica and also get substantial pain around my shoulder blades caused by using weights and kickboxing... she relieved alot of tension and felt fab after, she also helped me understand what was beneath why I had so many aches and strains. Will definitely be using her again, I would highly recommend."

"Absolutely fabulous. Had back pain for about 4 years; I've seen a lot of different professionals who haven't been able to help. Since Lucy's massage my back not only has movement but I've managed to sleep without being woken up when I roll over. Lucy also made me feel completely comfortable and relaxed. Thank you Lucy!"

"My partner recently received a massage from Lucy. He felt instant relief following what he described as an intense but satisfying massage. Lucy was very friendly and was happy to travel out to us here in South Normanton, Derbyshire. Thank you Lucy. He will certainly be in touch for another very soon."

FAQ
Question: How often should I get a sports massage?
Answer: You will see the benefits from sports massage with as little as 1 massage per month but for best results weekly or fortnightly is recommended.
Question: How long will a typical massage last?
Answer: There is no such thing as a typical sports massage as each treatment is specifically tailored to suit your needs. However, most treatment will take between 20 and 60 minutes; an initial consultation and treatment may take up to 90 minutes.
Question: What should I wear?
Answer: It all depends on the individual treatment but use usually shorts and T-shirt are recommended.
Question: What Techniques are invloved?
Answer: There are several techniques your therapist may use depending on the circumstances; Effleurage uses a light, quick stroking action to warm up an area before any deeper work begins. Petrissage uses slower, firmer strokes to manipulate the underlying muscles and soft tissues. Deep Tissue Massage uses a smaller surface area such as thumbs, knuckles and elbows with firm pressure to work on muscles deep within the body.
Question: Does it hurt?
Answer: Prehabilitive sports massage is not painful as there are no underlying problems. Some of the techniques used in rehabilitive massage can be uncomfortable but should never be unbearable. A massage that causes you to tense up with pain would be counter-productive.
